It is disappointing that Sens. Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar voted
against the Energy Independence and Security Act. By increasing fuel
economy standards for the first time in decades and setting a national
renewable electricity standard, the bill takes a historic step toward a
new energy future.
By putting more fuel-efficient cars on the road and increasing our
use of renewable energy, the bill was about creating hundreds of
thousands of jobs, saving Indiana consumers $619 million at the gas
pump and $265 million on their energy bills and making a downpayment on
the fight against global warming.
More than ever, America needs a new direction on energy policy, but Indiana’s senators have failed to change course.
